As a self employed person you are responsible for your entire business. If business is off- you can not rely that a paycheck will come in.  When times are lean you rely on what business comes in- when you build a sucessful business you reap the profits.  After working so hard to build a business you want to protect what you’ve built. One disability or sickness can set you back years or financially destroy what you have- Disability insurance can keep cash flow coming in and keep your business from being destroyed.

Unfortunately Life happens and in the case of accident or sickness- nobody will pay your bills if you are unable to work. Disability insurance allows you to collect a paycheck to keep your expenses paid- Disability insurance covers you 24 hrs a day- 90 % of disabilities are due to sickness. Disability policies can pay your mortgage or rent, put food on your table, and keep expenses paid. You can cover up to 60% of your net income.  

 

Other policies are available called Business Overhead Expense insurance- Business overhead expense will pay the expenses of your business (not you) so that you can keep an office lease paid – pay utilies and insurance-  some policies may even pay the salary of a replacement for you that you hire- until your well enough to return to work. This keeps the business you’ve spent years and sweat building — alive.
